The annual membership drive started March 1st. and will close on Sept. 30th. This year the tickets to the Holiday Party will be open for sale to members only for 3 weeks before sale to others. If there are any tickets left at that time, we will open the sale to non-members. We will have a firm cut off at 132 tickets for sale this year.

COME AND TAKE A WALK THROUGH THE WETLANDS Satuday, June 19, 10 AM
We’re going on a little walk before the monthly luncheon. The Wetlands trail is about a mile walk on flat ground (no incline) It’s an easy walk with lots of birds, fish and great views.
From the 405 or 22 Freeways, take the Bolsa Chica exit south to Warner Avenue. Turn right on Warner Avenue to PCH. Turn left at PCH.

The Bolsa Chica Wetlands Interpretive Center is located at 3842 Warner Avenue, which is at the southeast corner of Warner Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. A second parking lot is located on the east side of PCH, 1 mile south of Warner.

From Darlene, the manager of this year’s Long Beach Pride float committee:

Cathy and I want to thank everyone involved in making the day, actually the weekend, a lot of fun and for making it possible for Forty Plus to walk away with our SECOND Gay Pride (Parade) Award; The Stonewall Award!

. . . The crowds loved the music, the float, and the women on and off the float. The applause, the cheering was deafening at times. People on the street danced with the candy runners and grabbed them to have their picture taken with them. The cheering, yelling, waving of hands continued throughout the parade even though the candy did not. And the crowds did not care; they were having too good of a time. The entire experience was unreal and I’m so glad we did it!

Thank you to the active and non-active members of Forty Plus who made this possible.

Watch the silvery fish come up on the beach to spawn! Learn about the interesting mating rituals and growth of this curious fish. The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium opens at 8 pm and an auditorium program begins at 9, followed by guided observation at the beach. Warm clothing and a flashlight are recommended. Grunion may be taken by hand only, and a valid California fishing license must be displayed if you are 16 years or older.

Events coming this year
The Holiday party has come and gone and we’re getting ready for 2010. Some of the things we will be doing this year are: The Bowers Museum, Holiday Party, Huntington Library, Bowling, The Getty Center, Museum of Latin American Art, Picnic, Rancho Los Alamitos, Sherman Library & Gardens, Poker, Bingo, Miniature Golf and the Gay pride Parade. (Not in that order) We’re also trying to get together a Sock Hop in late May or early June. Should be a busy but fun year.

It was a tough year for 40 Plus. We lost 5 of our members. Stella, Dianne, Mickey, Dinah, and Heather (our founder). They will all be missed very much.
